House of Dolls Fashion Academy (HODA) is a hands-on fashion design and tailoring school in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, founded by designer Idara Unyime Leo. We nurture talent, build confidence and teach the practical sewing, pattern drafting and garment construction skills our students need to stand out in the fashion industry.
Whether you are just discovering your passion for fashion or ready to take your craft to the next level, our fashion training programmes guide you every step of the way. All classes are in person.
Fashion Design Courses
Beginners Fashion Course (3 months)
Learn sewing from the very basics: parts of the sewing machine, manual and industrial machine use, hand stitches, tape reading, taking accurate body measurements and body shapes. You will learn pattern drafting for the basic bodice, sleeves, gown, skirt and trousers, with sleeve, skirt, gown and trouser styles plus an introduction to contouring.
Class days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10am to 2pm.
Intermediate Fashion Course (3 months)
For students with some sewing experience who want to refine their technique. Covers necklines, skirt design and flares, advanced sleeves, shirt making and collars, 25%, 50% and 100% contouring, dart manipulation, corporate wear, twist, cowl, dinner and illusion dresses.
Class days: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10am to 3pm.
Advanced Fashion Course (3 months)
Master complex couture techniques: mermaid and panel skirts with godets and trains, streetwear, suit making, full contouring, corset making including over-bust, underbust and bust caging, draping, aso ebi and ankara projects, and traditional and white wedding bridal dress making.
Class days: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10am to 3pm.
Extra Classes
Fashion illustration, tie and dye, fabric painting and fashion business classes are also available.
Accommodation
Hostel accommodation is available for students coming from outside Port Harcourt.
